It’s always said, what you focus, expands!

It’s pretty common for many of us to have endless of doubts on why I’ve been sacrificing so much and yet nobody appreciate my effort, why I’ve done a lot and it seems nobody realize that it’s done by me, why a certain people seem do not like me, no matter whether I am doing everything right, why my bosses can’t see that I’ve changed from day 1 I joined and I’m now so much better compared to last time or even you might think that your spouse doesn’t’ love you anymore after many years of marriage. Well, the list of your doubts is endless.

It's logical to think that you see whenever your eyes are open. But the reality is how we look is not the whole concept that makes us up or breaks us down as whether we are creating a good or bad impression. It’s about your Image Management in totality that matters! How we carefully craft the right image that works for us?

However, like it or not, no matter how good you are or how known your brand is, somehow, somewhat, our first decision made is based on what we see! Let’s be frank and tell me this:

“When purchasing a box of cookie, when there are only two boxes, one of the paper boxes is dented in the corners while the other paper box is pristine and new. Which do you pick up? The pristine box of course. You will throw away the box when you got home and both boxes have the same products. But weren't sure that you could trust that the dented boxes' contents would be as good. rather than taking the time to check the product out, you just quickly grabbed for the box which looked the best. You opted for that which looks better, even though it was the product inside that counted.” Right?

Yes, I understand that our image is just the packaging, and once you know a person or a product better, it might be another stage of our continuous image branding. Unfortunately, it is one of the first building blocks required that initiated the first move.

Now before you throw Steve Jobs, or other business success icons at me on how they have their eternal same image and yet they are successful. saying, "They don't care for their image" let me ask you this, will you care on how’s the look of the Apple Products that you are using. Is the product’s packaging or design cool enough for you? What matters to you is not the inventor but the end products that decides if you will be continuing using it.

Therefore, by understanding the rest of the Total Image Management elements from Inner Image to Visual Image, Assumed Image extended to Experience Image, all these will sum up the effectiveness of your strategies in image management by your Proven Image! In a way, no matter how bright you are, if you are not able to communicate your thoughts/ideas out, forever, nobody will understand you unless they are intended to.

Let’s have a quick understanding of the 5 essential areas of TOTAL IMAGE MANAGEMENT. Each area is equally important and cannot be ignored.

1. Inner Image

This is the sum and substance of who a person is; it is the real them that others can’t see. It sets the limitations from which they live and behave.

2. Assumed Image

This is what others know and/or expect of a person. Once a person is known, the assumed image becomes their "REPUTATION".

3. Visual Image

This area is most powerful when meeting someone (or an audience) for the first time. If they present a poor first impression, they may find themselves struggling to reclaim lost ground.

4. Experienced Image

This is the behavioural aspects of a person consisting of etiquette, communication, people skills, and body language. It is always wise to strive to leave those you meet with a positive experience of you.

5. Proven Image

This is the final area of Total Image Management. It is the results of their behaviour, efforts, and talents as proven over time.

Therefore, ensuring the alignment of each element in Total Image Management is essential for us to achieve Proven Image over time.
